“Supplemental insurance may help you manage your budget.”

Medicare does the heavy lifting, paying a large part of retirees’ doctor and hospital bills. But, what about some of the things it doesn’t cover, such as prescription-drugs? You may have some options when it comes to defraying these costs. For instance, lots of people buy Medigap policies, which do just what their name implies. They fill in coverage gaps. You’ll pay a premium out-of-pocket for coverage. But, a predictable cost may be preferable to the ups and downs of monthly, uncovered Medicare costs. Here’s more.

“You may already be a winner.”

A lucky few still have retiree health insurance coverage from their former employers. In this case, between a retiree plan and Medicare, they may be well provided for. Also, if you are a Medicare + Choice insured (for example, covered by a Medicare HMO), you don’t need a Medigap policy.
