Catherine H. Smith

ING US
Catherine Smith serves as CEO of ING's US Insurance business, including the Life Insurance, Group Insurance (Employee Benefits), and Group Reinsurance businesses. These business lines serve the wealth protection needs of more than 7.4 million Americans through individual and group policies. Smith also spearheads ING’s six sigma initiative for the America’s region.
She previously served as CEO of the US retail businesses and Chief Operating Officer for the US, leading the customer service and information technology functions. Prior to 2002, she led distribution for ING US Worksite Financial Services. She was CFO of Aetna Financial Services when ING acquired it in 2000.
Smith holds a master's degree in public and private management from Yale School of Organization and Management, and a bachelor’s degree from Hampshire College. She is an active board member for Outward Bound USA, the Connecticut Fund for the Environment and serves as an advisor to the Connecticut Trust for Public Land.
