Career Enhancement Fairs introduce resources to help employees advance their careers

Published Date: 06/22/2006

Career Enhancement Fairs were held at USFS locations across the country on Thursday, June 8. These events were collectively sponsored by all of the ING Employee Networks and chaired by the ING Asian-American Network.

Representatives from local colleges and professional organizations were invited to set up stations where their representatives could provide information to ING employees regarding college courses, financial assistance and programs that can help employees with their career growth and provide a competitive edge. Professional organizations also provided information about initiatives to help employees move their career forward. Here is a sample of employee reactions:

“I really enjoyed the Minneapolis Career Fair,” said Theresa Larson, ING Employee Benefits. “I enjoyed talking to school representatives because I’m looking into four-year schools. I especially enjoyed the panel discussion. The speakers shared a lot of good information about career development, continuing education, mentoring and networking.”

“The ING Latino Network– Hartford Chapter was approached by a representative from Internal Investigations about a guest from ING Chile who they are currently hosting for an extended visit (several months) at our Hartford site,” said Jose Rivera, ING Latino Network national chair. “He asked if the ILN could be of help to their visitor, Jaime Jara, head of Audit for ING Chile. As a result, representatives from the ILN met with Jaime and will be assisting him acclimating to the Hartford area, registering for English classes at an area school, inviting him to further ILN meetings and events, and ensuring that he feels welcome during his extended stay. This connection was a direct result of the Career Fair.”

“The ING Women’s Network at PrimeVest Financial Services in St. Cloud, Minn., supported the ING Networks Career Fair,” said Tina Green, secretary-treasurer of PrimeVest’s chapter of the ING Women’s Network. “The event was a huge success! Six colleges participated and approximately 35 employees were able to visit with and gather information from their representatives. Management and employees felt the event was a very interesting approach and opportunity toward career enhancement.”
