ING earns perfect score on HRC’s 2006 Corporate Equality Index
Published Date: 08/10/2006
ING has earned a perfect score of 100 in the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) 2006 Corporate Equality Index (CEI).
The HRC is America’s largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) civil rights organization, and the CEI is a tool to measure how equitably companies are treating their GLBT employees, consumers and investors. Print media circulation of the CEI has been extended to more than 10 million readers.
ING’s 100 score is a significant improvement over the company’s 2005 score of 56. The difference? Over the past year, ING has added gender identity to its Equal Employment Opportunity policy, commenced a compulsory diversity training program for all managers and supervisors and sponsored or financially contributed to GLBT health, educational and community events and organizations.
The impact of ING’s CEI score may be considerable. Here’s why:
- Employees and Perspective Employees – Companies that score well on the CEI are included in the Human Right’s Campaign’s “Best Place to Work for GLBT Equality,” an online feature published each January.
- Consumers – GLBT buying power in the U.S. is estimated at more than $640 billion and growing. HRC’s annual “Buying for Equality” guide, a link for the socially conscious buyer, has reached more than one million individuals.
- Investors – CEI results are used by socially responsible investment funds and researchers.
