Atlanta hosts Job Shadow Day for 40 Latino students

Published Date: 11/09/2006

More than 40 Latino students from Campbell High School visited ING in Atlanta for a Junior Achievement (JA) Job Shadow Day in October. This special Job Shadow event demonstrated ING’s commitment to JA of Georgia and its Hispanic Outreach program, which was developed in 2002 to address the high school drop out rate in the Hispanic community. The program enables JA to serve a diverse student population by equipping them with the tools to succeed in today’s competitive economy.

Victor Rodriguez, of ING Investment Management, welcomed the students and provided them with an overview of the company. Rodriguez also serves on the JA Hispanic Outreach Advisory Board. Volunteers acted out a skit in which they demonstrated the difference between good and bad interview skills. The students were divided into groups and volunteers presented case studies that focused on ING career opportunities and products. The students shared lunch with volunteers and discussed their goals and aspirations.

“I appreciate everyone who volunteered to organize the Job Shadow event and engage with the students,” Rodriguez said. “ING’s commitment supports JA in developing programs like the Hispanic Outreach, which helps keep students in school and prepares them for future career opportunities,” he added.
