The National Superintendent of the Year and the State Superintendents of the Year awards recognize outstanding leadership among the ranks of school superintendents. This program is open to all U.S. public school superintendents and superintendents of American schools abroad who plan to continue in the profession. Anyone may nominate a superintendent for this program. Candidates are evaluated on the basis of meeting student needs, communication skills, administrative knowledge, and community involvement. This program is cosponsored by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) and Aramark Education.
